Quraysh imposed a severe social and economic boycott on Banu Hashim and the Muslims. After it ended, the Prophet ﷺ lost both Khadijah رضي الله عنها and his protective uncle Abu Talib. This period became known as the Year of Sorrow.
He travelled to Ta’if seeking an opening for the message but was rejected and injured. Even then, he did not ask for the people’s destruction; he hoped goodness would emerge from their descendants. His supplication expressed weakness before Allah without surrendering his mission. Prophetic patience was active: grieving, turning to Allah and continuing to seek a path for mercy.
