The Trench and Perseverance

Consultation and shared labour protected Madinah during a confederate siege.

When allied forces advanced on Madinah, Salman al-Farisi رضي الله عنه suggested digging a trench along the city’s exposed approaches. The Prophet ﷺ accepted this unfamiliar strategy and worked beside his Companions through cold, hunger and fear.

The siege tested the community internally and externally. They endured without surrendering their trust. The episode shows leadership open to good ideas regardless of origin, solidarity through shared labour, and patience when danger does not end quickly.
