Blessed Birth and Noble Lineage

The birth of Muhammad ibn ʿAbdullah ﷺ into the respected clan of Banu Hashim.

Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ was born in Makkah into Banu Hashim of Quraysh. His father, ʿAbdullah, died before his birth, and his mother was Aminah bint Wahb. His lineage was known and honoured among his people, reaching through Ismaʿil to Ibrahim عليهم السلام.

His birth is traditionally remembered in the Year of the Elephant, when the Kaʿbah was protected from an invading army. His grandfather ʿAbd al-Muttalib named him Muhammad, a name connected with praise. From the beginning, his life joined nobility of lineage with the vulnerability of an orphan—preparing a Messenger whose compassion would embrace the overlooked and unprotected.
