Qaṣīdat al-Burdah · Chapter 4

The Blessed Birth

The blessed birth and the signs associated with the coming of the Messenger ﷺ.

VERSE 1
English translation

His birth revealed the goodness of his element
Oh goodness, beginning and ending with him.

VERSE 2
English translation

A day on which the Persians preyed; they were warned of the coming of misery and vengeance.

VERSE 3
English translation

And Khosrau’s iwan spent the night in disarray, like all of Khosrau’s companions, not fully healed.

VERSE 4
English translation

And the fire is extinguished by the breath of sorrow for him, and the river is dim of the eye due to misfortune.

VERSE 5
English translation

And it is bad for Sawa that her lake has become flooded
and the one who enters it has responded with rage when I am thirsty

VERSE 6
English translation

As if there is fire in water, there is no wetness/sorrow, and in water there is no burning in fire.

VERSE 7
English translation

And the jinn chant and the lights shine
And the truth appears from meaning and from words.

VERSE 8
English translation

They were blind and deaf, for the proclamation of good tidings was not heard and the warning sign was not smelled.

VERSE 9
English translation

After the people informed their priest that their crooked religion had not been established

VERSE 10
English translation

And after they saw on the horizon of shooting meteors, according to the idols on earth,

VERSE 11
English translation

Until tomorrow, through revelation, a defeated person came
of the devils standing in the wake of a defeated person.

VERSE 12
English translation

As if they were heroes fleeing from Abraha
or a soldier with pebbles thrown from his palms

VERSE 13
English translation

They rejected Him after saying “Tasbih” with their stomachs
they rejected the one who glorified Him from the bowels of a joined person.
