A humble appeal for mercy through love of the Messenger ﷺ.
ذُنُوبَ عُمْرٍ مَضَى فِي الشِّعْرِ وَالخِدَمِ
I served him with praise that I resign from
the sins of a lifetime passed in poetry and service

الْفَصْلُ التَّاسِعُ فِي التَّوَسُّلِ وَطَلَبِ الشَّفَاعَةِ
A humble appeal for mercy through love of the Messenger ﷺ.
I served him with praise that I resign from
the sins of a lifetime passed in poetry and service
When they gave me something whose consequences I fear
as if I were therein a gift of blessings
I obeyed my youth in both cases, and I achieved nothing but sins and remorse.
What a loss to a soul in its trade/that did not buy religion with the world and did not make good!
And whoever sells a deferred sale for a deferred one, then wrongdoing will be revealed to him in a sale and in a safe sale.
If I commit a sin, then my covenant will not be broken by the Prophet nor will I be pregnant with someone who will break it.
I have a responsibility from him by calling me Muhammad, and he is the most fulfilling of people’s obligations.
If he is not with me, taking my hand, otherwise, say, “O slip of the foot.”
Far be it from the one wishing to be deprived of his good deeds
or the neighbor returning to him without respect.
And ever since I have committed my thoughts to his praises
I have found him to be the best and most devoted to my salvation.
Wealth from it will not miss a hand that has been moistened
Indeed, life grows flowers on the sleeves
And I did not want the flower of the world that was plucked by Zuhayr’s hand because he praised Hürrem
